Oborevwori visits Uduaghan’s family, says ex-gov won’t be forgotten

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has paid a condolence visit to the family of former governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, describing him as a great leader whose contributions to the state would remain indelible.

Uduaghan died on Monday at the age of 71.

According to a statement made available to PUNCH Online on Tuesday, Oborevwori, accompanied by his wife, Tobore, and top government functionaries, visited the deceased’s widow, Roli Uduaghan, and other family members to offer his condolences.

The governor had earlier joined family members and other dignitaries, including Uduaghan’s daughter, Orode, and former Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Pinnick, to receive the former governor’s remains at Osubi Airport.

During the condolence visit, Oborevwori recalled his relationship with Uduaghan, describing him as his former boss who played a significant role in his political journey.

“He was my boss. He gave me the highest political appointment, Special Adviser, in 2007. That is something that really touches my heart. You are all aware that he supported me throughout this journey,” the governor said.

He described Uduaghan as a calm, articulate and thoughtful leader whose contributions to Delta State’s development had touched many lives.

Oborevwori said the large turnout of mourners and visitors to the family reflected the late governor’s impact on the people of the state.

The governor particularly praised Uduaghan for establishing the Asaba International Airport, describing it as one of his enduring legacies.

He also said the former governor’s decision to undertake development projects beyond narrow ethnic considerations demonstrated his commitment to the overall progress of Delta State.

Oborevwori added that his administration would continue to recognise and preserve valuable projects inherited from previous administrations, citing the ongoing modification of the Effurun Roundabout Flyover as an example of sustaining and improving existing infrastructure.

“He has gone, but he can never be forgotten by Deltans,” he said.

Earlier, the governor signed the condolence register, expressing sadness over Uduaghan’s death and commiserating with his wife, children, family members and the people of Delta State.

In his tribute, Oborevwori wrote, “I am saddened by the demise of the former Governor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan. He was a great boss. I commiserate with his beloved wife, children, family members and Deltans over this great loss.

“May God grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss. Your impact in Delta can never be forgotten. Asamaigor, RIP,” the statement concluded.

Uduaghan governed Delta State from 2007 to 2015.
