Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has said there is a huge ego battle between the presidential candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general election.
Keyamo made the statement in a post on his X account while reacting to separate Independence Day broadcasts by Atiku and Obi following President Bola Tinubu’s national address.
The minister said the development led him to conclude that Tinubu was not the problem between the two opposition figures.

He wrote: “After watching both Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, presidential candidates of the ADC and NDC respectively, scramble to make their own ‘broadcasts’ after the President’s speech, I came to one irrefutable conclusion:
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not the problem of these gentlemen. There is a huge ego battle between Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi; there is also a subdued bitterness between them and their supporters.”
Keyamo attributed the situation to the inability of Atiku and Obi to work together despite what he described as several efforts to bring them together.
He said both politicians now appeared focused on proving their respective positions to each other and determining who would be regarded as the “REAL OPPOSITION” to the ruling party.
“Since they could not work together despite all entreaties, both men think they have a point to prove to each other and all their present battles is to prove who the REAL OPPOSITION is to the ruling Party and who is entitled to claim the 2nd SPOT come January 16, 2027,” he added.
Atiku and Obi have been associated with separate opposition platforms ahead of the 2027 election.
Both were also absent from a September 1 opposition summit in Abuja where several parties began discussions on a possible common platform and single presidential candidate.
